Job Description:

If you're eager to enhance the accessibility and quality of geographic information for Climate Action and develop innovative geoinformatics methods for open, non-profit applications, we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are a non-profit startup focused on applying geoinformatics technology to help address climate change challenges. Our mission is to bridge the gap between climate knowledge and actionable solutions. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated spatial data scientist to collaborate on Climate Action projects, including the creation of high-resolution spatial indicators for climate change readiness and greenhouse gas emission mapping.

Your responsibilities will involve generating high-resolution spatial indicators related to climate change readiness and greenhouse gas emission estimates. This includes working collaboratively with teams to conceptualize and implement specialized spatial indicators and emission models.:

    Developing and implementing customized high-resolution spatial indicators and greenhouse gas emission models., Applying advanced machine learning techniques to enhance and complement datasets., Analyzing and improving crowdsourced geodata such as OpenStreetMap in conjunction with remote sensing data, government datasets, social media, and citizen science contributions., Conducting data fusion of various data sources., Managing data engineering tasks., Validating and assessing data quality and uncertainty., Assisting with the communication and visualization of results by co-developing an open-source platform that includes web and mobile applications.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or above-average university degree in Geoinformatics
  • Geography

  • or a related field.
  • Expertise in volunteered geographic information
  • particularly OpenStreetMap.
  • Demonstrated broad methodological skills and research experience in Spatial Data Science and Machine Learning.
  • Strong programming skills in Python. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g.
  • git) and spatial database systems (e.g.
  • PostGIS) is advantageous.
  • Experience in environmental modeling or relevant knowledge in Climate Change
  • Climate Action
  • and Sustainability.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and implement new approaches based on scientific literature.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in German is preferred
  • but English is acceptable.
