Job Description:

    The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is an interdisciplinary research institution that investigates a broad range of questions relating to the perception, performance, and creation of music and other performing arts. The Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology invites applications for a Research Software Engineer position on a full-time basis (39 hours per week). This department is led by Prof. Dr. Fredrik Ullén and offers a dynamic and enthusiastic research environment that employs various techniques, including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, psychological and physiological experiments, and behavior genetic analyses focused on the interaction between genes and environment in skill acquisition. The ideal candidate will be a creative and driven software engineer with a strong sense of intellectual independence who enjoys collaborating with scientists, engineers, and technical staff. A keen interest in practical problem-solving in the context of cutting-edge scientific research is essential. Key responsibilities include developing software applications for psychological experiments run online or in-house, which involve presenting various stimuli (e.g., images, videos, sounds) and recording participant responses. Additionally, the role entails developing and maintaining software for data acquisition, signal processing, and analysis of diverse scientific data (behavioral, physiological, etc.) collected from participants in the institute's specialized labs, including an XR lab, a music lab for studying the brain mechanisms of skilled music performance, and the ArtLab, a combined performance space and laboratory that allows for measurements from both artists and audiences during concerts and events.

As a Research Software Engineer, you will be responsible for various software development tasks aimed at supporting cognitive neuropsychological research.:

    Design, develop, and maintain software for experimental data collection in laboratories and online studies, Create and sustain software for the acquisition and analysis of different types of behavioral and physiological data, Present current research and development projects and facilitate internal training sessions
