Specialist Engineer - Arc Modeling and Simulation

Job Description:

    A new position has opened for a Specialist Engineer in Arc Modeling and Simulation. The role is based in Bonn. The primary function involves the application and enhancement of modeling and simulation methodologies for electrical arcs in various low and medium voltage power distribution products. The successful candidate will develop, enhance, and implement state-of-the-art technologies within the Arc Modeling and Simulation Center of Excellence. Responsibilities include ensuring and improving model accuracy, collaborating with business unit teams, and supporting global cross-functional teams in product development.

Key responsibilities include::

    Applying and enhancing models for AC and DC circuit interruption as well as fault arc processes across various components and systems., Supporting a diverse range of global teams in the development of new products while generating intellectual property., Developing and implementing new arc simulation models to enhance simulation capabilities using both commercial and proprietary software., Staying at the forefront of arc physics to drive technology development, attending conferences, and presenting findings., Building and managing relationships with academic partners., Coordinating with business teams supported by the Arc Modeling and Simulation Center of Excellence., Protecting intellectual property through the creation of patents and trade secrets.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Plasma Physics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with atmospheric plasma discharges and electric arcs in industrial energy distribution applications.
  • Proficient in numerical algorithms and simulation methods such as CFD and FEM.
  • Skilled in modeling plasmas
  • including MHD modeling that combines fluid flow and electromagnetic processes.
  • Proficient with standard simulation tools like ANSYS Fluent and Ansys Maxwell.
  • Expertise in high-level programming languages including C
  • C++
  • Fortran
  • Python
  • and Perl.
  • Experience in new product development in the electrical power distribution sector.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
