Job Description:

    The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics is one of the leading centers for fusion research, focused on developing the scientific foundations for future fusion power plants. We are seeking an engineer or physicist with a PhD and expertise in FEM analysis to join the Engineering Analysis group within the Stellarator Dynamics and Transport Division. This position involves conducting research at the large-scale experiment Wendelstein 7-X located in Greifswald.

The role includes various responsibilities related to thermal structural analysis and engineering.:

    Conducting requirements analysis and developing models for thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic analysis of in-vessel components, structures, and diagnostics, Performing thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic FEM analyses with complex finite element models and estimating the operating limits of plant components and structures, Evaluating calculation results according to relevant standards, Independently processing, evaluating, and documenting task results in the form of reports, presentations, and descriptions of models/results, Enhancing and benchmarking existing global finite element models, Developing and updating specialized auxiliary programs using Python and MATLAB, Publishing significant findings in relevant journals and conferences

  • Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis
  • Thermal and mechanical engineering principles
  • Programming in Python and MATLAB
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications:

  • PhD in engineering science (e.g. thermal engineering
  • mechanical engineering
  • electrical engineering) or experimental physics or applied mathematics
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical and knowledge of ANSYS APDL
  • Proficient programming skills in Python and MATLAB
  • Fluent in English for effective communication within an international team and for presenting complex scientific and technical topics
