Job Description:

    Are you a passionate spatial data scientist eager to contribute to societal and environmental betterment, particularly in the field of Climate Action? We seek a highly motivated individual to enhance the availability and quality of geographic information for Climate Action and to develop innovative geoinformatics methods for non-profit applications. As a Senior Spatial Data Scientist, your work will involve creating high-resolution spatial indicators for climate readiness and mapping greenhouse gas emissions.

Your responsibilities will include generating high-resolution spatial indicators for climate readiness and greenhouse gas emission models. Depending on your expertise, your tasks will involve collaboration with teams on various projects.:

    Design and implement tailored high-resolution spatial indicators and greenhouse gas emission models., Utilize advanced machine learning techniques to enhance and complement datasets., Analyze and improve crowdsourced geodata such as OpenStreetMap (OSM) alongside other spatial data sources including remote sensing, governmental data, social media, and citizen science information., Integrate and fuse the aforementioned data sources., Manage and engineer data effectively., Evaluate and validate data quality and uncertainty., Assist in communicating and visualizing results by co-developing an open-source platform that provides web and mobile applications.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or an above-average university degree in Geoinformatics

  • Familiarity with volunteered geographic information (VGI)
  • particularly OpenStreetMap (OSM).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Spatial Data Science and Machine Learning with substantial research experience.
  • Strong programming abilities
  • particularly in Python
  • with experience in collaborative development (e.g.
  • using git) and spatial database systems (e.g.
  • PostGIS) being advantageous.
  • Experience in environmental modeling or domain knowledge in Climate Change
  • Climate Action
  • and Sustainability.
  • Proven hands-on experience in evaluating and implementing new approaches derived from literature.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in German is preferred
  • but English is acceptable.
